New long term cooperation on the Chinese market

On November 6^th an agreement of cooperative intention during the " The 2008 China (Changsha) Science and Technology Achievements Industrialization Fair (CSTAIF 2008)" was signed.

Under the topic "High Level Biocatalyst and Industrialization of Bioconversion" the partners will utilize modern biotechnology on enzymatic way, to complete numerous bioconversion/optimisation of organism and intermediates so that the request of high efficiency, cost saving, environment protection, and high purity can be met. Up to now, projects have been developed including evolution of traditional antibiotics, chiral resolution of amino acid, and structure modification of high level organic chemical products.

The target amount of cooperative intention represents 12 million €.

The position of W42 GmbH on the Chinese market is further strengthen by this prolonged cooperation and demonstrates the high efficiency and industrial acceptance of our Pichia sp. Expression platform.

W42 close a deal for the development of a new biocatalyst

W42, in cooperation with his Partner Dr. Ulrich Giesecke (Penzberg, Germany), concluded a contract with the Shijiazhuang Pharm Group Hebei Zhongrun Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (CSPC) dealing with the development of a new biocatalyst. The enzyme will show very interesting biocatalytic properties for the synthesis of a‑amino substituted semi-synthetic ß-lactam antibiotics. For the production of the industrial biocatalyst the powerful Pichia sp. technology of W42 will be used.

W42 strengthen his position on the Chinese market for technical enzymes

W42, in cooperation with his Partner Dr. Ulrich Giesecke (Penzberg, Germany), concluded a contract with the Hunan FLAG Bio-Tech. CO. Ltd (Changsha, P.R. China). Aim of the cooperation is the development of new efficient recombinant yeast strains expressing prominent technical enzymes that are used for the production of important building blocks for the synthesis of β-lactam antibiotics. By realising this project W42 is know partner of two important pharmaceutical / biotechnologic companies in the business for technical enzymes on the fast growing and significant marketplace China.

FLAG is a Biotechnology company, funded in 2001 that is focused on the production of bioengineering related compounds. The company produces and researches enzymatic series products and semi-synthetic antibiotics with its key products immobilized penicillin acylase and twin enzymes for 7-ACA production. "Our company is going to produce advanced intermediates for the production of β–lactam antibiotics solely by biocatalytic route. The cooperation with W42 Industrial Biotechnology is an important component on the way to reach our ambiguous goals." said Mr. Xu Gang, the President of FLAG.

Dependent on fixed milestones W42 will get the stipulated payments, whereas the first milestone was already achieved. The project was started at the beginning of 2006 and will be completed this year.

04. April 2006 Strain development for Chinese pharmaceutical industry

W42, in cooperation with his Partner Dr. Ulrich Giesecke (Penzberg, Germany), concluded a contract with the Shijiazhuang Pharm Group Hebei Zhongrun Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (CSPC) dealing with the development of new efficient recombinant yeast strains for the production of two prominent technical enzymes. A complete process for the fabrication of the immobilised form of these two catalysts will enable CSPC to carry out the corresponding production of important building blocks for the synthesis of β-lactam antibiotics.

CSPC have capability to produce β-lactam antibiotics such as 5000 ton of 6-APA and 1600 ton of 7-ACA now, and in recent years the use of biocatalysts to substitute for chemical method has become increasingly important within CSPC.

"After our effort, CSPC could produce 6-APA all by biocatalysts and 200 ton 7-ACA by biocatalysts now. By utilizing biocatalysts we want to improve industrial processes for the production of intermediates for β-lactam antibiotics and at the same time make these processes more environmentally benign. The cooperation with W42 complements and accelerates our own activities in this area." says Mr. Zhu Ke the responsible project leader.
